Never too old to play? - 2007/08/23 05:21
It's been a rough couple weeks for a lot of folks around Chouteau. Here's some lighter commentary to toss around. I just had to post a link to this article on ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2986313
A 59 year old man makes a Division III college football roster.
Unbelievable! That's it, I'm going try to out for a college tennis team!
I actually tried to walk on to the NSU Men's team in like '97 or '98. The coach had me go through about 20 minutes of warm up activities, mainly jumping rope. By the time I got to hit, I was totally worn out! Even then, I didn't feel that overmatched by the guy I got paired against and I was hoping I'd at least get to practice with them. He told me to try again after a couple more years of training and practice. I never got to come back, because they promptly committed some NCAA infractions and got their whole team shut down. (Ha, karma!) To this day, NSU still doesn't have a Men's Tennis squad. If a 59 year old guy can play college football, surely I can compete in tennis. Maybe RSU has a team?
"Kip, you hang out in cyber space a lot. Have you ever run across a time machine? What do you want to bet I could hit a tennis ball over those mountains? Yeah, I could have taken State..."

So who wants to pay my house payment and utility bills and car payment and insurance while I follow my dream? Also, how do I hide this flop hanging over my belly so a coach doesn't spot it? There's a lot to consider still.
