So how was your New Year's? - 2007/01/03 23:37 Anybody do anything interesting? We sat at home like the old folks we are... Given I can't drink currently, I wouldn't have been any fun at a party, so we sat at home and watched Food Network all evening. haha Enjoyed some rather nice fireworks provided by the neighbors up the street, then went to bed to get up late the next day. LOL!

So what did YOU do?

Re:So how was your New Year's? - 2007/01/06 01:14 Well this year my kids were at mom and dads in Chouteau and my husband and myself were able to rock in the new year with no curfew. Yippy! We had a blast and hope everyone else had a good time also. Here's to a wonderful 2007!

Re:So how was your New Year's? - 2007/01/08 14:57 Ours began ok but so far hasn't been too great. Last Tuesday we took our baby to her Pediatric Dr in Tulsa, Dr. Freed. Lauren was coughing badly and had a lot of congestion in her chest. It was obvious she was getting pretty sick and she's only 10 weeks old! He sent her home and ran no blood tests, didn't swab her, nothing. He said to keep her upright and run a humidifier and watch her breathing. Thursday we took her to the Pediatrician in Pryor and Dr. Rhanni (sp?) had her immediately hospitalized with RSV. We were there for 4 days because that jerk in Tulsa was in a hurry and didn't take the time to run any tests when the virus was getting established. All of the nurses in the hospital were shocked he didn't take any samples or give her medicine or breathing treatments on Tuesday. He coudln't have stopped the infection but treatment could have begun much earlier.
So, yeah, we're not going back to that SOB. However, Dr. Rhanni (or however you spell it) in Pryor was awesome through the whole thing.
It's pitiful that we made the effort to take her to a Pediatrician in South Tulsa thinking we'd get better care than in Pryor. We learned nice facilities are not the only factor in health care. A Doctor that actually cares can make the difference between life and death.
We're home now and Lauren's doing much, much better. I was worried for a while that both grandfathers were going to track down Dr. Freed and have an unfriendly word with him, but I think they're satisfied that we're not going back to that cattle-car outfit.

I'm a regular Debbie Downer. WAAA WAHHHH.
But I'm glad YOU had a good time, Robyn. HA!

Re:So how was your New Year's? - 2007/01/11 01:14 Chad, Mae Mae's daughter Cedi had RSV when she was a baby and made it through it. Could have told you about RSV if you would have told me she was sick in the 1st place. Next time drop a line will ya. LOL Hope she is feeling better now. Did you get the grandpas calmed down?

Re:So how was your New Year's? - 2007/01/11 17:22 She's waaay better now. We were really scared at first because the public perception is that RSV is a death sentence for infants. That's what I had believed anyway. As we found out it's very common and treatable. They say it's more dangerous to premature babies and the elderly. But we made it through alright.

Anyone else have a pleasant New Years experience?

This parenting thing is tough. Very inconvenient.

Re:So how was your New Year's? - 2007/01/11 21:49 Kory had RSV as a baby, before they had an 'official' name for it. Dr Ring was who we took him to, and he basically did the same thing your first ped. did. Sent him home and said "well, we'll just have to treat the symptoms" Kory ended up being sick for nearly my whole senior year, so I was in and out of school taking care of him. It was very very very scary. I'm VERY happy that now they have treatment that they've found works, because all we could do back then was just put him on cough medicine and alternate between giving him formula (cause he couldn't eat much w/o throwing it up) and NOT giving him formula, cause lactose causes mucas to be much thicker. I have never been so afraid in my life...but he's fine now, and is rarely, if ever sick at all. All that helped me though, to deal with two little girls who have asthema, and are seriously ill nearly every winter.

I'm very very happy that you guys found a Dr that helped. You're more than right though, that finding a Dr that LISTENS to you, and is concerned about your child, rather than just about getting as many patients as they can. Keep us up to date on how she's doing, ok?
