Re:Who'll Stop the Rain? - 2009/05/07 23:40 Yep, we're out for the next two days (today and tomorrow) and possibly for the summer. That's just a rumor though, the part about summer. Wishful thinking. lol I really don't want to have to go after Memorial day. My mother in law is comin' down from Canada the day schools SUPPOSED to be out, and I don't want the kids to miss any of her visit.

Re:Who'll Stop the Rain? - 2009/05/09 07:47 That would be fact. I've only heard about the upper Elementary so far, they're gonna be at FBC. No word on Jr High. I imagine the ECC kids (K-4 thru 2nd) are gonna be in their own building, since I don't think it flooded. So I'm pretty sure Kati's gonna be where she always is. My older two...only sure on Liz. Still up in the air on Kory's classes. This should be interesting.

Though on a related note, we don't have to make up the two days we missed this last week!! w00t w00t! They waived them, so we wouldn't have to go after Memorial day.

Water shuts Chouteau school down

Sommer Woodward
Staff Reporter
Chouteau students are staying home for the second day Friday while water damage at the school is being repaired.

Students are expected to be back in school by Monday, but at different sites. The early childhood center and Mazie Elementary will be open for students, but the elementary, middle and high schools will likely not be open until the end of next week.

Two Chouteau churches volunteered to house students for the week.

Director of Operations Stan Horn said he hopes to have the cafeteria and kitchen back in service by Monday. Students will walk or be shuttled to

the cafeteria from the churches for lunch and afternoon sports.

The school called in a water restoration company, Burggraf Restoration, to help restore the

buildings.

Horn said every building on the main campus of school was damaged by the massive amounts of rain last Friday.

He said several school personnel worked last Friday to fight the water, which was leaking through the ceilings, walls and floors.

Horn said the school put off the cleanup as long as possible, but had to begin Thursday to

prevent mold.

Horn said the high school was hit hardest by the water, followed by the middle, then elementary schools.

The school is having to replace everything that got wet during the storm.

The buildings are being dried out and the company is considering whether to pull up the carpet. Horn said he can detect an odor because of the wet carpets, so he thinks the carpets won’t be

salvageable.

Sheetrock has been cut out of 30 to 40 classrooms as of Thursday afternoon, and the company has already pulled down 300 ceiling tiles.

Work will continue into next week, and could be done by next Friday.

Re:Who'll Stop the Rain? - 2009/05/11 20:54 I'd like to see pics please/ lol well I heard that the county of Mayes might be considered a disaster area then you'll get gov. money to fix the roads and maybe the school. That would be good

Re:Who'll Stop the Rain? - 2009/05/11 21:25 Yea, they're trying to get everybody who even had the slightest bit of damage to submit a claim so we can meet the guidelines to get FEMA money. The kids are all at school in the churches, though they're doing it kinda weird. We take the kids to school as usual, they eat breakfast, then they bus or walk them to the church they're having classes at, then they bus or walk them back to school for lunch, then bus or walk them back to the church for afternoon classes, then bus or walk them back to the school at 3 so they can catch their usual buses to go home. Seems like a huge waste of time to me, and how much learning do you figure they'll be getting done with all this walking back and forth? lol Given what I was told was that they'd be walking unless it was raining. Ah well...only two weeks left. 9 days after today!
