My New Vehicle - 2009/02/08 08:40 For all of you people who like BIG vehicles, here is a link to what the truck I ride around over here in Iraq looks like. I love this truck. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/mrap-pics.htm We use one like the top picture in the Category 1 group. These things can take on anything.
Since I have been here, my truck has been hit with an IED, one of my soldier's truck was hit directly with 2 hand thrown grenades, one has been hit by a mortor, and a couple others have been hit by other IEDs. So far, all of the trucks have sustained minimal damage, and NOBODY inside the vehicles has had any injuries. See why I love these trucks. They are big and a bit top heavy, but with good driving, they are the best thing we can have over here right now. I'll take this truck any day over the average humvee. I even have a medical version of this truck that has as much as your average ambulance. They think of everything for us.

That's the kind of vehicle our troops should have had from the start. I never understood why they let anyone off a secured base in a dadgum Humvee.

So how is the developement of fighting robots coming along that can replace infentry? I'm thinking that's when I might join up. Or if I can just control my droid from home on the weekends, that would be good for me. I drew up a pretty good design for one on my Trapper Keeper lid in 4th grade, I think can find it. It transforms into several kinds of vehicles too, so that's a plus.

I'm so glad to know nobody's had any injuries at all, and I'm even happier knowing WHY. But not all that thrilled at hearing all the stuff you're going through over there. I know somebody else who isn't thrilled with it either.

I'm glad you got to talk with her and reassure her, cause she sounded SO much stronger the next day. I haven't said a word to Kory about it though. Or anybody else for that matter. *shrug* Just stay safe Vance. That's all I can say. Just please stay safe.

Re:My New Vehicle - 2009/02/13 21:01 Well Chad, we are working on the closest thing to fighting robots that we can come up with over here. It is called the Iraqi Army. We are training them up as best we can and then letting them go. We don't do anything without them, and they take the lead on everything. On some things, they go and take care of it and only call us if they need help. Those are the days I like because we don't have to do anything then. Now, I'm not saying they are as smart as some robots, but at least it isn't us out there doing all the fighting.
We had another MRAP get hit a couple days ago by a vehicle IED that they estimated had between 800-1000 lbs of explosives in it. The MRAP took the blast like a champ, and nobody inside was hurt. The blast didn't even pierce into the truck. The more I see these things surviving big blasts, the happier I am that I am in one myself. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that diesel is still expensive, I'd almost like to have one of these trucks for myself. Talk about the ultimate muddin machine. And it has it's own winch to get you out if/when you get stuck. What more can you ask for.

Re:My New Vehicle - 2009/02/13 21:03 I almost forgot, Brandy, let everyone know that I am being as safe as I possibly can. I know Kory worries, but I'm doing good over here. I will find some time and some way to come that way and see him when I get back. I won't tell my parents so I don't have to see them, but I'll figure something out. Making it home is my number one goal right now. Too much at home to not make it back. Thanks for all the support you have given me and my family through all of this.

I know Kory will too. He DOES worry, more than I think any 14 year old should...but he's doing pretty good. And I won't say anything if you don't want me to.
