Re:Tips to Lighten Up? - 2008/05/03 00:11
Since we are all obviously getting old and falling apart, here is what I have learned from some people in the Army and trial and error on my part. The best way that I have been told to drop those unwanted pounds and inches is a kinda three point plan. First, like you are already doing, watch what you are eating. It isn't always what you are eating that counts, it is how much. Second, find some kind of workout that you like to do. Doing some kind of resistance training or weight training at low weights and high reps helps to tone things without bulking up like the Hulk. Third, add some form of cardio in with it, either before or after the resistance training. Like you, I have lots of trouble running. Six years in the Army with all the things we do had really torn my knees and ankles up. I have found that the best cardio that I can do is biking or using an elliptical runner. Those things are the best invention ever. With the right one, you can get a good cardio "run" and a small upper body workout at the same time. And, they are designed to be very low to no impact on the ankles and knees. I run outside or on a treadmill when I have to, but I will go for the elliptical runner any day. This plan has worked for me many times when I needed to drop those last few pounds when I need to. Hope that is some kind of help for you.
