Re:Tips to Lighten Up? - 2008/05/02 05:09 OH good Lord do I have to point out the obvious? my husband and I have found this awesome way to burn calories (insert dirty bedroom thought here)!
Chad if you eat in moderation and like Brandy said keep your heart rate up for about thirty minutes it helps. I had a personal trainer/really hot friend who had me do weights for 15 minutes and fast walking for 15 and i shedded the weight fast. BUT if you don't keep up with it then it ALL comes back! Trust me!!

Re:Tips to Lighten Up? - 2008/05/02 22:02 I'm enjoyong only my second cola of the week and it's GOOD.

I don't think I eat that bad, just bad portions. I pretty much gobble until my belly hurts. I just can't get my fill anymore!

Kimberly, don't look for me in your step class just yet. But if I can't get a handle on this..... just maybe!

I could live off those Olive Garden salads, if only we had their like around home.

Well I will have to try to bike regularly and maybe water ski once a week this summer. Playing tennis in the heat should help, too.

I think I could suck it out with a shop vac if I am very careful about it. I just want to fit in my jeans a little better. I can't bend in those things anymore!

To make it worse, my daughter keeps patting my stomach and saying 'Ba-by! Ba-by!'

Re:Tips to Lighten Up? - 2008/05/03 00:11 Since we are all obviously getting old and falling apart, here is what I have learned from some people in the Army and trial and error on my part. The best way that I have been told to drop those unwanted pounds and inches is a kinda three point plan. First, like you are already doing, watch what you are eating. It isn't always what you are eating that counts, it is how much. Second, find some kind of workout that you like to do. Doing some kind of resistance training or weight training at low weights and high reps helps to tone things without bulking up like the Hulk. Third, add some form of cardio in with it, either before or after the resistance training. Like you, I have lots of trouble running. Six years in the Army with all the things we do had really torn my knees and ankles up. I have found that the best cardio that I can do is biking or using an elliptical runner. Those things are the best invention ever. With the right one, you can get a good cardio "run" and a small upper body workout at the same time. And, they are designed to be very low to no impact on the ankles and knees. I run outside or on a treadmill when I have to, but I will go for the elliptical runner any day. This plan has worked for me many times when I needed to drop those last few pounds when I need to. Hope that is some kind of help for you.

Re:Tips to Lighten Up? - 2008/05/03 00:28 Dan has actually promised me an elliptical once we get moved. Course, he also promised me a hot tub for Valentine's day next year. We'll see how that goes.

Vance, you're so right. Portion control and bored mindless eating are my problem. That and I don't like anything that isn't loaded with carbs. >_< Kim and I are checking into taking a couple of workout classes (step aerobics or something) at the Rec Center in Pryor...because if we have to pay for it we'll definately GO. Once I get the weight OFF I won't put it back on, but honestly I NEED to get in better shape. I'm tired of being this heavy. And while I know I'm not THAT heavy, my knees HURT. I ran to my car the other day and I felt like my ankles were going to just shatter.

The only problem I'm going to really have is finding a bra....*sigh*

And Robyn, your solution would work...If I liked my husband. j/k
