Great teachers - 2005/08/24 14:02 There is an African proverb that says, "It takes a village to raise a child." I believe teachers are a great part of that village. All of my teachers did an awesome job and I appreciate them so much. Some of the teachers that stand out in my memory are:

Coach Thorman-who was also my bus driver and took great personal interest in me. He made me feel like I was really worth something.

Mrs. Miller-who made me really think and write those 8 lines a day!
She always put a lot of effort into what she did. I learned so many new things from her.

Mr. Garis-I don't think I was one of his favorite students, because I remember crossing him a time or two, but I really respected him as a teacher. I still have my zoology notes!

Mr. & Mrs. Kroeker-I never was really good at music, but they let me sing and play anyway! Honestly, one of the things I appreciate most about them was that they really cared about us when we went on trips they cared enough to know where we were & what we were doing. They also taught me some "life lessons."

Mrs. Roberson-She really made home economics fun! I'm so glad that the semester before she retired, she let us girls talk her into anything! I remember cross stitching for 9 weeks!

Mr. Croft-For teaching me the lighter side of life in life science!

Mr. Yocham- for not giving me an easy ride in algebra. He made me learn the up hill way!

Mrs. Ashley-for making 2nd grade an interesting place to learn. Also for the tooth fairy club!

Re:Great teachers - 2005/09/14 13:56 Anybody out there know how many of them are still teaching at Chouteau? I think I also had most of them in class one time or another. Paul Anderson - The Class of '98

Re:Great teachers - 2005/09/16 01:06 [b]Miss Miller was by far the best teacher Chouteau has ever had or ever will have. That lady helped me through sooooooo many problems. She took me under her wing when I had no body and to this day, she considers me and my family a part of her family and we see eachother all through the year. It's been 17 years (wow, that sounds like a lifetime ago) since I sat in her class, but it seems like yesterday. I love you Dawn!!!
Mrs. Coppage...God bless her. I don't know how many times I got whopped in the side of the head with a chalk board eraser. (I think a teacher would go to jail for that these days!!) I still laugh when I think about her. I swear she hated me. We were sewing quilt blocks one day in class and I said something about feeling brain dead and she said "You have to have a brain to be brain dead!"
And Mrs. Shultz!! Who in the world could forget her?!! You youngins probably don't know who in the world I'm talking about, but the woman wore crooked lipstick and had very thin lips. Couldn't pronounce Massachettes and we were relentless in fooling her into saying it. She always told every one not to procrastinate and to stay in their own plantation! Gosh she was a hoot, but we hated her. If you go by her house I believe to this day she still has a fence up in her front yard. That's because my friends and I toilet papered the poor old woman's house like every week-end! I'm sorry Mrs. Shultz!!

Re:Great teachers - 2005/09/17 14:43 I had both Mrs. Coppedge and Mrs. Schultz as teachers myself, although a few years before you did Ballentine. Just wanted to pass along that I believe Mrs. Schultz passed away earlier this year.

Re:Great teachers - 2005/09/30 20:00 Yea, Mrs Schultz did pass away early this year. I was a little surprised to hear about it, as I had heard she was doing better.

Ms. Miller (Ms. Palmer now) is still there, from what I understand. Mr. Kroeker is at Mazie now, but Mrs. Kroeker is still there. My son loves her class. hehe I think he got some of my musicality. My daughter is currently in Mrs. Ashley's class. She loves her.

I have no idea what happened to Mr. Garis, he came back after that one year he went elsewhere, I think it was my Sr. year he came back, cause I mouthed him about not teaching Anatomy that year. And then he left. I never found out why. Mrs. Roberson left in 1995 I think, maybe earlier than that. I wasn't there that year, so I can't say for sure.

I think I spend a little too much time at the school lately....haha
