The second Ice Storm of 07.... - 2007/12/12 20:57 So how has everyone fared? We were out of power for about 6 or 7 hours total. Very glad we went and got some firewood on Saturday! We didn't even get cold, since we had our fireplace going already. It was kinda fun, everyone sitting in the living room, Dan and I reading, and the kids playing "Go Fish!" in front of the fire. Abby hated it being so dark though. But she slept through the biggest majority of it.

And how is everyone bracing for the snow we're supposed to be getting this weekend?

Re:The second Ice Storm of 07.... - 2007/12/12 21:18 Well, we thought we'd make it. We didn't lose power until Monday around noon. Last time we were 8 days w/o power. We're on Day 3 now and just went out and got a generator. Hope Michelle likes her early Christmas present.

Anyone drive through Chouteau Monday night? CREEPY! Not one light on down highway 69 from the stoplight to hwy 412. Only car lights here and there. Not even semis for once!

I want to add, I'm happy for anyone who has power now....but you jerks that go ahead and run Christmas lights while most of us are huddled around a wood stove or fireplace and go to bed when the sun goes down; you people infuriate me! Show some respect! That's like hanging out in the Sahara pouring jugs of water out in the sand!
Unplug those lights until we've all got power, or at least until I have power and no longer take offense at such minutia.

I really am going to build a windmill for power. And grow my own bio diesel for fuel. Then I will be totally independent and live as a recluse for the rest of my life. Muhahahaha! Got to go wash my hands, I can't keep them clean. Germs... germs everywhere!

Re:The second Ice Storm of 07.... - 2007/12/12 22:44 I was wondering about you all Chad. Sucky that you're w/o power still. The first storm this year we went through Pryor (just out of curiosity, and we didn't have power so there was no real point in staying home haha) and it looked like WWIII had happened!! Limbs down everywhere and it was SO dark! Kinda scary actually.

My Grandma only lost power for about an hour...I'm really happy about that. She is stressed enough.

Y'know, I never thought about it, but yea, Christmas lights being on on someone's house would be kinda irritating if you don't have power. I'm rather glad we don't have any up on our house, now that I think of it.

Re:The second Ice Storm of 07.... - 2007/12/12 23:59 I'm in BA and we lost power around 11am on Monday and seem to finally be back on the grid as of about 11am Wednesday. We were lucky to be able to stay at my brothers house during the outage.

I'm excited to finally have it back though... I feel for ya Chad. We spent two nights without it, I can't imagine 8 days.

Re:The second Ice Storm of 07.... - 2007/12/13 19:50 Thanks for the sympathy. We've all just got to take care of each other in times like this. I sure wish the utilities would bury more of the residential power lines. Looks like there has been a call by the State government for utilities to propose such a plan now.

It would really raise my spirits if I at least get to shoot at a looter before this is over. Did you all see that guy on the news who was napping when someone broke into his house? He grabbed his trusty shotgun and peppered the guy's rear. The reporter asked him what advice he would give someone who was the victim of a home invasion, and he said 'shoot 'em in the rear!'
Now that dude is a true Oklahoman.

Re:The second Ice Storm of 07.... - 2007/12/13 21:20 hehe My husband is still laughing about that.

And the guy who caught someone stealing his full gas can out of his truck, and when he started to run after the guys they shot at him and he shot back? Classic. Nearly fell out of my chair. haha
