"Walnut Grove"by R. D. Roberts - 2007/09/05 04:19 I read the book "Walnut Grove" by R. D. Roberts. R. D. is an alumni of Chouteau High School, now living in Columbia, S.C.
The book is great! I had a hard time putting it down. I even got up at 6 A.M. on Sunday morning to finish it before I went to Church.
"Walnut Grove" is set in NE Oklahoma.
The book can be bought at www.buybooksontheweb.com

Re:"Walnut Grove"by R. D. Roberts - 2007/09/05 05:37 Dear Mrs. Childers,

Thanks for the book tip. After noticing your previous posts I thought you might assist: There is something I have been wondering for a while. While residing in New York City where I have been for about the last fifteen years, I have come to know some very nice people here by the last name of Sorenson who I am friendly with. They are quite interesting and I have had the pleasure of visiting their beautiful home on several occasions at the Carlyle House on Madison Avenue. The wife, Marge, who has the best advice and her husband, Robert are their first names.
Robert's brother is Ted Sorenson who has served in many
United States presidential administrations. I thought you may be related, as I recall when our uncle, Tommy Coates who managed Air Force One had a homecoming at Grandma Phillip's house in Chouteau someone was visiting from your parent's home across the street. There was a discussion about the White House at the time and for some years since I have known the Sorensons here, I have been wondering if there was any relation to your family. Hopefully, I will see Marge at the United Nations on Thursday, perhaps I will remember to ask her....

Re:"Walnut Grove"by R. D. Roberts - 2007/09/05 14:02 Isn't RD the brother of Dooney Roberts? I believe he is the son of Reverend M.E. Roberts that used to pastor the First Baptist Church in Chouteau. Just wondering if anybody knows for sure.

Re:"Walnut Grove"by R. D. Roberts - 2007/09/05 15:33 I used to work with Dooney's son, Mickey Roberts at Love Bottling in the summers during college. He was a riot!

Is this going to go around until we find an association with Kevin Bacon?

Re:"Walnut Grove"by R. D. Roberts - 2007/09/05 20:47 Michael,
As far as I know, we do not have relatives in NYC. However, my grandfather Nels P. Sorensen did have several brothers that immigrated to the USA from Denmark. It is quite possible that they are our relatives.
My parents moved from the house in Chouteau in Sept., 2004. They moved here to Claremore, OK where my sister and I both live. My father passed away on Oct. 1, 2005. Mother is doing well here in Claremore.
Where is your uncle Tommy? He graduated with my husband Owen Childers, Jr. in 1963.
We enjoyed living across the street from your grandparents.
