Going Home - 2007/07/28 19:58 As of right now, with the dates that I have been given, I am almost out of here. I have 36 days left until I should be on U.S. soil again. I will fly from here in Baghdad down to somewhere in Kuwait. I should only be in Kuwait about 48 hours before I fly out for the states. I will fly into the Air Force base that is right beside Ft. Lewis, WA. It is almost over. All of my brigade will be home by mid-to the end of September. I get to go home early because I am my companies armorer and I have to get our arms room ready for everyone else to get there. Extra jobs sometimes have their advantages. I'll keep everyone updated on my return as I learn new things.

Re:Going Home - 2007/08/10 20:46 Alright! Now, how's it work? Will you be back for good or is it just a little R&R? An Reserve guy in our church has been here and back like 3 or 4 times now. It's crazy.

All these golf fans hanging around Tulsa for a PGA tourney this week have been griping about the heat and humidity they're having to endure. Some people, even spectators have been passing out around the course. I just wondered what your thoughts were and how much sympathy you must feel for those poor folks getting overheated watching and playing golf? It must be terrible on that course.
Why, I even heard the vendors aren't even putting umbrellas in some of the iced fruit drinks!

Re:Going Home - 2007/08/11 04:56 Vance,
I dont Know you but, I wanted to tell you that I appreciate you serving this country. I also serve in the National Guard. I'm with the 45th Fires Brigade in Enid. I have served for 6 years now, and have been where you are. I know it's hard to be away from family, and I know alot of people do not appreciate what we do, but I do! Thanks again for serving this great nation. If it wasn't for men like you and me and all of our other brothers who have died to keep this country safe and free, we would have to deal with this idiots on our own soil.

Thanks again!
HOOahhh!

Re:Going Home - 2007/08/11 09:49 Chad, I will be going home for good. I got midtour R&R in January for two weeks. I will be going back to Ft. Lewis for about three months. Once I get back, I have a month long school I have to go to at Ft. Lewis for a month during October. After that, I will work on getting things ready to move from Ft. Lewis to Ft. Hood, TX. I will leave Ft. Lewis mid-December and go to Lubbock where my wife and kids are for a month. Mid-January, I report to Ft. Hood. I will be working at the hospital there for the last three years that I have left on my contract. Either way, all that matters to me right now is that I will be leaving Iraq and going back to the states.
As for the people at the golf course, you can probably imagine what I have to say about them. The temps here are around 120 during the day and between 95-100 at about 10pm. We have to be in our full uniform during the day which consists of long pants, a t-shirt, and a long sleeve top. To add to all the fun, it is slowly getting hotter here. The hottest months over here is Aug and the begining of Sept. We are looking at temps getting up to 140 or so. After a while, you get used to it though. I know I have. I don't like it, but I am used to it.
I hope everyone is having fun on the lakes and at the pools and doing whatever else you all are doing this summer.
Vance
