It was sad to learn about your grandfather's passing.
It reminded me of two very profound moments growing up in Chouteau, among the many other times at the lumberyard.

The frst one was in front of your grandparents house in the driveway and I still do not remember exactly why I have remembered that moment for so long or what I was even doing in their driveway in a car at that time (must have been with someone who was visiting). But the second time, I thought you might appreciate: My mother, upon leaving the hardware store one day (late seventies) expressed her thoughts about what a fine Patriarch J.B. was. That day I learned what exactly a fine Patriarch is.

I hope your grandmother will be fine and that your family is
more especially blessed during this time.

I was saddened to hear of your grandfather's passing. I had known him since they moved to Chouteau. I was 6 when I first met J.B. & Velma. Velma was one of my Sunday School teachers. I have been friends with your Aunt Kay since we were both 3.
You were blessed to have such a great grandfather, and are still blessed having a wonderful grandmother. Please know that your family is in our prayers.

Re:J.B. Mullins - 2007/08/29 05:11 The service was really nice. My cousin Monica wrote a beautiful speech about him, and the flowers were gorgeous. It's still hard to believe he's gone. I was over there daily. It's so strange to walk into the den over there and not see him in his chair. I'm still coming to grips with the fact that he's not with us anymore. So very many memories...and I guess I never realized what a huge part of my daily life he really was.

Grandma's doing alright. She's not great, she doesn't have a whole lot of motivation. She doesn't seem to much care about anything anymore. I'm over there all day every day keeping her company and doing various things he used to do.

Our family has really pulled together so much (as if we could really get much closer lol) and it's nice. He'd be happy about that if he was here. He was so very interested in his family.

Anyway, thank you all so very much for your kind thoughts and wishes. We really appreciate it so much. It's going to be a long time before we're anywhere close to being back to our normal selves.

In 1996, my grandpa pasted away and we were close so I know its hard but here is the amazing thing that happens. My grandma...after her greiving period, joined a church group (the old folks)lol and they take trips alot, she does her bridge club, she has a personal trainer through the Pryor community center, she does her water arobics, and this fall her and her sister, my mom and dad are talking the alaska cruise. She has redone her whole house and made it the way she wants and for a lady in her eighties she is a spit fire. They take care of their husbands for so long and never get to have their own time. When their is no one left to worry about the pressure is off. Your grandma loved your grandpa very much just as mine did. But now when she's up to it she will be ready to live her life and enjoy everything she's ever wanted. Just be there and let her know its ok.
For goodness sakes I can't even keep up with my grandma she's never home. Your grandma will get through this and all those grandkids & great grandkids will help. I wish her the best.

When my maternal grandfather passed away in 1985, my grandma did a lot of traveling over the next 15 years or so before being sidetracked by alzheimers. She also played cards with her friends in town and had her hair done every week, so she stayed pretty busy.
She took those senior bus tours with her friends and they went all over the country. It was great for her. She didn't have to worry about driving directions or lodging or eating.
If a person is still able to get around and has a little financial room those trips can be very therapeutic.
In fact, if some time goes by and she seems to be caught in a funk, your family might want to try 'shanghai-ing' her onto a bus tour if you can find someone she knows to accompany her.

I forgot to add that my father, Harold (Bud) Sorenson was a good friend of your grandfather. I know that my father and your grandfather are having their long talks in heaven. My Mother, Bernita Sorenson is also a good friend of your grandmother.
