Re:Our Graduation pics are up. - 2007/05/31 21:56 Chad... have you applied at either of those companies yet? I've been tossing around the idea of hitting up Google at least. My Linux skills are very very basic though is my only drawback. Paul Anderson - The Class of '98

Re:Our Graduation pics are up. - 2007/05/31 23:33 So far they haven't had any LAN Admin jobs. I applied for the Desktop job at Gatorade but didn't hear anything.
A guy at work who does our Cyber Security and is the biggest Linux buff I've ever seen or heard of got turned down for that Linux Admin job. If he wasn't qualified I don't know what they want, but they'll need a lot of luck finding this fantasy technician in Oklahoma.
I'm pretty discouraged, they both want a Bachelor's Degree for everything, even Desktop Support!
When I started in IT, there weren't any IT degrees except MIS. And that was for managers or developers.
So I may have to get some online degree before I can move up in the world. Or at least work near home.

Is it too late to go back into Journalism? I should have listened to Mrs. Duck!

Re:Our Graduation pics are up. - 2007/06/01 04:38 That's why I'm going to school....I just have to find a way to pass friggin algebra. *sigh* Chad, wanna tutor me?

Re:Our Graduation pics are up. - 2007/06/01 07:12 I guess I'll keep checking their job postings for something a little less Linux heavy.

You could always go the certification route too, there are a ton of different ones out there. If you already have the experience and could throw some of those famous "IT Acronyms" in there.

I graduated w/ an MIS degree but I already had a job lined up and I was to chicken to test the waters to see what was out there. Google is pretty tempting though if they have some other positions open up.

Re:Our Graduation pics are up. - 2007/06/01 15:13 Brandy, you made my week! That is FUNNY! I tried 4 times to pass BEGINNING Algebra! 3 times at TCC and once through correspondance through BYU. I never got it, even with paid tutors. I finally got a Counselor at TCC to substitute a Psychology class for Algebra so I could get my Associates. All I had to do was pass two Accounting and one Business class. I already had all my computer classes and had all A's.
So....I proceeded to fail Financial Accounting via online courses and I haven't tried again. I'm just older and have a worse memory than when I was younger so I know I will never be able to pass a math geared class. Not if someone threatened my families lives could I do it. No way. I'm just missing that part of my brain.

I swear...in school people thought I was one of the 'smart' kids because my buddies were mostly brainiacs and my mother was a teacher and I wore glasses.
Nope! I had you all fooled! I was a B and C student in High School and was right proud of my C's and D's in College.
I was like Chris Farley in 'Tommy Boy' when he saw his final grade in some college class: "I got a D plus?!?! OMG....I PASSED!"
Everyone always told me I could pass Algebra if I tried hard enough. Yeah right, they had no clue...... But I'm sure you can pass it! Just buckle down, put your mind into it, give it your best, and all that crap that sounds good but doesn't really get results on test day.

The only real use for Algebra is to produce Algebra teachers. If I was going be a propulsion engineer or architect, THEN I would expect to have to take an Algebra course for my degree.

I hope you can pass it Brandy, I really do. Because people will get hired over you just because they have an IT Degree, even though when you discuss Active Directory 101 with them they just stand there drooling on the sidewalk and picking their nose.

Re:Our Graduation pics are up. - 2007/06/01 18:02 Yea...not gonna mention how many times I've failed "elementary algebra" at RSU. My husband is a math whiz...he makes me sick. And he gets SO frustrated trying to teach me. Mrs Yarborough passed me just so I'd get out of her class in school. lol I just -don't- get it. I wish I did...cause I envy people who can get algebra. I can't. But I have to, if I ever want to pursue the career I want. I've gotta figure it out somehow.
