Mayes County Residentds - Beware of Trailer Theft! - 2009/01/16 01:20 Got this alert from one of the Chouteau PD Officers:

We have been having lots off trailers stolen in Mayes county over the last month or
so. We have had 4 stolen in 2 weeks and 3 of them just the last 2 days. 2 on
Tuesday. Both of them on Tuesday were by the same guy. At 1230pm the subject
pulled into a residence in Chouteau hills and stole a 8' lawn trailer with a fold
down gate. At 5pm the same subject stole another lawn trailer about 2 blocks away.
The victim was home but didn't know it happened. The second victim has video but
its not real clear. You can see the truck in the alley and the subject calmly
walking between the house and shop to the trailer and back to the truck to get bolt
cutters. He then again calmly walks back to the trailer and then pulls it by hand
to the truck and leaves. A neighbor of the first victim saw the guy pull in his
neighbors drive and then when he walked back to the door he was leaving with the
trailer. The neighbors description matches the truck and subject from the video.
Also in speaking with several people in Chouteau Hills and the mail carrier, the
same truck has been seen driving around the neighborhood several times over the past
week. The following is a description of the truck and subject.

Truck: New model chevy Z71, solid white in color. Extended cab with "suicide"
doors in back (open from the inside). Z71 is decaled on rear panels and the Z is
red. The truck sits up high and has loud exhaust. There is some sort of decal in
the back glass of possibly a deer head like the Browning logo or something like an
eagle.

Subject: white male, medium build and maybe a little on heavy side. It is hard to
really tell because he was wearing a carhart coat. Light beard. 5'9 to 5'11. Not
much on subject. Sorry.

If anyone has info on any trucks matching this description please contact the police
department. If you see any vehicles matching this description or any other trucks
driving around in the neighborhood immediately call the police. If possible get a
tag but do not put yourself in harms way. The best tools we have are the eyes of
you guys in the community.

Re:Mayes County Residentds - Beware of Trailer The - 2009/01/16 01:23 Yep. My dad was one whose trailer was stolen. He has since bought another one, and it's locked up in my yard. They seem to only be getting at ones easily accessible.

Gonna keep my eye open for this vehicle, and let my dad know. Maybe he'll recognize the description...

Re:Mayes County Residentds - Beware of Trailer The - 2009/01/16 08:28 That's infuriating. Sorry to hear that. I can't stand thieves.

A couple weeks ago I was home on a weekday I had off and was taking care of our two small girls while my wife was at work.
I happened to walk by our front window and saw a white SUV, looked like an Excursion, drive slowly up our driveway. It stopped halfway up (our drive is long) and about the time I got nervous it backed all the way back down to the road and went on.

Like maybe they got close enough to see we didn't have any trailers parked outside?

At least it was a different vehicle. Could have been someone just lost.

I swear they saw our 3 big dogs laying in a pile of tangled hair in our driveway watching them approach and decided not to do anything.

Yeah, with two little kids to take care of and us isolated in the country, it was a little unnerving. I didn't think a whole lot of it at the time, though. Probably should have phoned the Sheriff or something.

We need to install an automatic gate BADLY. Have to try to find a good deal on one. I don't think they are insanely expensive anymore.

Re:Mayes County Residentds - Beware of Trailer The - 2009/01/16 19:11 I honestly think the thing that makes me the most angry about it is the sense of security this jacka** has stolen from my Grandma. She's scared to be at home alone now. Granted, they didn't break into the house, or into the garage or anything, but she's scared. And she's fought tenaciously to keep her independence and be able to stay home during the day. Now she's really nervous anytime she hears a car door slam. It just makes me SO ANGRY. They didn't just steal a trailer. They stole something very valuable from someone I love very much. I hope they catch the thief and hang him out to dry.

Re:Mayes County Residentds - Beware of Trailer The - 2009/01/16 21:05 Yeah, that's how they make you feel. Some fools stole some horse tack from my dad a few years ago and it is scary just to think some criminal was walking around on your property. What if they decided to come on inside while you are sitting there eating your Post Toasties?

Here's hoping the PD catches this loser(s) before some country boy catches him with some turkey load in the knee.

Honestly, if that happened while we were home, they would be better off if I caught them than my wife. Her tendency is to shoot first, then second, and never ask questions. She's rough on those skeet targets!

Your grandma shouldn't be very worried. I am sure this 'perp' is the low-threat type and if she had been out front sweeping her porch he would have bypassed her. They want to pick the low hanging fruit, just low risk stuff.

Go get 'em, Chouteau PD!

Question: How do you fence stolen trailers? Like, how would you advertise?

Re:Mayes County Residentds - Beware of Trailer The - 2009/01/17 02:31 That's what Lynn told me the other morning when I saw him. If she'd been outside, or if my Grandpa's truck had been over there, instead of at my house they wouldn't have grabbed it.

And as for fencing them...Craigslist. If CPD is smart they'll start there. But this guy probably already has buyers lined up for them. I imagine they're all already gone.
