PRYOR, OK -- Almost 500 employees at a Pryor manufacturing plant will be out of a job by April of next year.

Labinal, Inc., located in the Mid-America Industrial Park announced Monday it will be closing its Pryor facility.

Officials say work from the Pryor facility will be absorbed by Labinal's existing facilities in Corinth, Texas and Chihuahua, Mexico.

The Pryor plant builds wiring harnesses for the aerospace industry and currently employs 485.

The plant is the industrial park's largest employer.

"We are extremely grateful to our employees; some have been with us throughout the last decade," said Chairman and CEO Norman Jordan. "We realize the impact this decision has on each of our employees and want to do what we can to help them move forward."

Labinal officials told Pryor-based employees Monday that layoffs will begin in 60 days. Employees have also been offered incentive packages to stay with the company through their release date.

An on-site career center has been setup at the plant to assist laid-off employees.

Re:Labinal Closing it's doors!!! - 2008/10/07 18:00 I heard about this last night when my brother called my mom to let her know he will be without a job come April of next year, but he is one of the lucky ones, I guess a lot of them are going to be laid off in December

My brother is only lucky due to his current position with the company.

I really hate this for everyone that is going to be losing their job, I know my brother and his family just bought a new home

Re:Labinal Closing it's doors!!! - 2008/10/08 03:58 Yea, my ex and about half his family work out there, and my sister and her husband work out there. Not too worried about my ex, as he can get a job pretty well anywhere, and he's been looking to get out of there anyway. But my sister lucked into an engineering position out there, without the education or experience necessary to get on anywhere else. So, there's not much chance she'll get another job making the money she makes now. Unless she moves to Wichita. They DID offer her a job there about two weeks ago. I honestly hope she takes it. She's worked hard for that job, and for the chance to move up in the company. Labinal has been good to her, and while it's been crappy to nearly everyone else I know, I really hope she can continue with them.

My ex is in the first wave of people who are getting laid of. He said he went in this morning hoping they'd tell him to go home. Apparently they told them that if they lay them off before December they'd all still get their severance packages and wages as though they stayed.

Re:Labinal Closing it's doors!!! - 2008/10/08 04:04 My sympathies go out to all those people. That is really hard news for this town and this area.

I interviewed there for an IT job around 2002, I think. I heard they went with a guy from Broken Arrow . I was really bummed because it paid good and was close to home. So all this time I figured I pass him on 412 every day while he drives the same distance to the job I should have had.

The HR guy that first talked to me was a good guy. Then the interview with the French IT lead was not so nice. Haughty, arrogant, educated, all the things I dislike about the French.

I'd like to go to the Truck Stop and get a burger basket complete with Freedom Fries about now.

Sure do feel for the families affected by this closure.

Re:Labinal Closing it's doors!!! - 2008/10/08 21:32 I myself had never heard of the place but it has made the news hear in OKC. That sux! Does anybody know why it went under? Is anything coming in its place?

Re:Labinal Closing it's doors!!! - 2008/10/09 00:20 The explanation that the "head guy" gave everyone yesterday was that they couldn't make the plant profitable. Well, given how they treat their employees I'm not surprised! My sister is the only person I know who HASN'T had problems with them. I don't know whether anything else is coming in it's place or not. I'm sure something will come in and take over the building. I dunno what though.
