Re:So is taking care of 2 kids a LOT harder than 1 - 2008/01/15 22:49 I'm guessing Congrats is in order?

Two is twice as much work, but it DOES get easier. You learn the more kids you have trivial things mean less. If that makes any sense. I have 4, and it's way easier than just having two. Although I have more running around to do now that they're older... Everyone's involved in something different. It's not as bad as you'd think.

Re:So is taking care of 2 kids a LOT harder than 1 - 2008/01/16 02:20 Now, this is an interesting topic! I have 2 girls, one of them is 3 months old & I have been asking myself, "Do I want to do all this over again and have another baby?" And to be honest, I don't think I do! I adore my girls, but I'm scared that if we had more kids that we'd be busier than I would like to be. I just don't want life to be too crazy. You guys really think 4 is easier than 2? Interesting...

Re:So is taking care of 2 kids a LOT harder than 1? - 2008/01/16 15:25 Yep, we waited to tell people until we got a heartbeat, based on past experience. Looks like late August we will join the 2 kids club.

I'm someone that is careful about getting into obligations. I try not to be over scheduled, I hate having to be somewhere all the time. I try to preserve our freedom to run around and be spontaneous. So the prospect of two kids is freaking me out a little. Our daughter is pretty easy to unload on the grandparents when we want to meet up with friends for dinner or see a movie. But two? Whoa nelly!

I have a friend at work who is saying 'Guess your summer boating season will be pretty short this year, huh?

We'll see about that! Lauren was on the lake at two weeks. Maybe this kid will be born there.

Re:So is taking care of 2 kids a LOT harder than 1 - 2008/01/16 16:59 I'm sure Michelle would LOVE to have the baby on the lake. Yea, that was sarcasm.

One is hard, two is twice as much work, but everything after that is just math. That sounds really strange, but it's true. Once you get past the OMFG!!!! I have THREE KIDS?!!!!! (or more) it's just one more plate on the table. One more pile of clothes when you're sorting to put things away. One more person's socks to match up. And you learn ways to make it easier. Like for us, we all wear Hanes socks, but the "Hanes" on everyone's socks is a different color. Kory's is green or blue, Dan's is Red, mine's pink, Kathryn's is blue and Elizabeth's is purple. Mainly because we all like different styles of socks, but still.

And as for the running around and being overscheduled, it's pretty easy to avoid. Just remember that YOU are the parent. When it comes to playdates and activities like baseball or soccer, you have the right to say no. Our kids know they get to play ONE sport in the summer. If there's something going on in winter they want to play we'll discuss it and see how it'll affect everyone else. And if it's something that will require a lot of running around and more commitment than we can handle, we don't do it. There are always going to be times when you're running like a crazy person with doctor/dentist/shots appointments, etc. But you'd be like that without kids.
