| Work Life and Milestones: |
I have an Associates Degree in Computer Science, but have never worked in the computer field. I have been a manager in training for a convience store chain, worked in a sewing factory sewing ruffles on little girls dresses, was a House of Lloyd/ Christmas Around the World party plan representatve for 9 years, was a Cultural Specialist for the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation for 3 years and am now a Resident Organization Coordinator for the Cherokee Nation and have been here for 4 years. I think the last 7 years have been my most productive in my jobs. I do every thing from coordinate the Cherokee Nation Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, am the liason between the Cherokee Nation and the IRS for this program, do income taxes and e-file, teach others to use software to prepare taxes and e-file, help coordinate and log paperwork for the Cultural Renewal Program, which teaches Cherokee youth about their heritage and Cherokee History, help coordinate camps for 30-100 youth each summer sometimes in Oklahoma and sometimes in Cherokee, North Carolina, help Cherokee community organizations with paperwork and organizational skills, teach cultural crafts and history in the communities and some schools to the youth, coordinate Cultural days at Sequoyah's Cabin by Sallisaw, travel and go to trainings for IRS tax preparation, community, cultural and youth work, help gather and prepare documentation for HUD audits, and anything else my supervisor asks me to do. I love my job, but during tax season it is very stressful, our program did 1,373 tax returns last year and I did 598 of those myself as well as paperwork on all of them. I work about 60 hrs. or more a week during tax season. |
